Non key retaining means that the key can be removed in both locked and unlocked position.
1 key pull is key retaining. Key can only be pulled out in 1 position. 2 key pulls is non key retaining. The key can be removed from either the locked or unlocked position.

The key code is the marking on the core or key that allows Delta lock to know what the lock combination is.
Remove the core use the green actuator to extent the bolt to locked position and then re-install
the core.
